Cassandra: Part Four

by Kelli Brown

Sunnydale High School Library:

Buffy entered the library and found Giles pouring over a stack of really old looking books. “Hey Giles, the newest vamp in Sunnydale paid me another visit last night while I was on patrol.”

Giles looked up from the books. “Did you fight her?”

“No, she just wanted to talk.”

“What did she say?” Asked Giles.

“She told me that she didn’t want to hurt me.” Buffy stated with disbelief evident in her voice.” She also warned me about Angel. “Obviously she doesn’t know about the curse.”

“Interesting. So she was not hostile at all?”

“No, it was weird. I wish I knew what she was up to.”

“I‘ve been researching her all night.”

“And?” Said Buffy with a hint of impatience in her voice.

“The watcher’s diaries first mention Cassandra around the early eighteen hundreds. This was before Spike was sired. Since this is a watcher’s diary, the only time she is mentioned is when she crossed paths with the current slayer at that time.”

“She’s met Slayers?”

“Met and killed them.” Giles was speaking with obvious concern in his voice. “It is mentioned that Cassandra is an unusually strong vampire. She has killed four Slayers. Giles then looked up at Buffy to gauge her reaction.

“Four Slayers?” Buffy was obviously rattled.

“Yes, there is more.” Giles stopped.

“More?”

“How much has Angel told you about his past?”

Buffy sat down. “Not much. He’s not one to over share. Why do you ask?”

Giles sat down across from Buffy at the table. “For every entry about Cassandra until the mid to late eighteen hundreds, Angel is mentioned as well. It seems that they were lovers.”

“Lovers?” Buffy was stunned.

Yes, from what I gather in the diaries, I would guess that Angel also sired Cassandra.”

“I can’t believe he didn’t tell me.” Buffy was getting angry. “Is there more?”

“Yes, she was around when Spike was sired. Her, Angel, Spike, and other vampires traveled around Europe for a few decades.

Buffy just sat there to let this new information digest. Then she remembered something Giles said earlier. “Wait a second. You said they were mentioned together until the mid to late eighteen hundreds. Why did they split?”

“It doesn’t say. After that time, Spike, Cassandra, and a few other vampires were mentioned together, but not Angel. Cassandra led that vampire coven until about 1898. Then she left by herself to America and came to California, specifically Sacramento.”

“How did you know that?”

“There was a Slayer in Sacramento at that time.”

“Did Cassandra kill her?”

“No, the diaries report that Cassandra fought the Slayer a few times, but none of their battles ever came to anything. Then it says that Cassandra just disappeared for no reason.”

“Was she ever seen again, until now.”

“The official stance of the Watcher’s Council is that she was destroyed. However, unofficial rumors cropped up. There were sightings of her, but none were proven.”

“Kind of like Elvis.” Buffy said with a snort. “Is there anything else?”

“No, I think that is all that I have about her. I’ll call the council, but I doubt that they will be of any more assistance.”

“I’m going to talk to Angel tonight. I am going to find out everything he knows about his Ex” Buffy said with bitterness evident in her voice. She got up to leave.

Giles grabbed Buffy’s arm to stop her. “Listen to me Buffy. This vampire is extremely dangerous. She’s killed four slayers, she is incredibly strong. She may have disappeared for the last century, but all that could mean is that she is really good at covering her tracks and not being noticed. Be careful.”

Buffy smiled. “I will Giles, I always am.” She then left for her day of classes.
