A/N: okay guys, this chapter is kind of drastic and unexpected. I didn’t even expect it. I hope you like it.

“Buffy? Honey, you got something in the mail!” Angel shouted as he walked into their house one afternoon, a few weeks after Buffy’s rape.
“What?” Buffy asked, walking somberly into the foyer. Her eyes were puffy and red. Angel could tell that she had been crying.
“It’s from U.C. Santa Cruz,” Angel shrugged, handing the envelope to Buffy. Buffy took it and opened it, seeming disinterested.
“Hm, I got in,” Buffy said, managing a small smile.
“Buffy! Good for you! My dad has offered to pay for all of it,” Angel mentioned, moving behind Buffy and wrapping his arms around her waist.
“Thanks,” Buffy said, pushing away from Angel.
“I’m sorry Buffy,” Angel sighed. Buffy nodded and walked slowly upstairs to their room. Angel knew better than to follow. He crossed the room to the phone and dialed Faith’s number.
“Hello?” Faith answered.
“Faith? I don’t know what to do. Buffy is totally shutting herself down. She just got excepted to U.C. Santa Cruz and she barely even reacted,” Angel sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose, fighting off a headache.
“Angel, I don’t know how to help. Nothing like this has ever happened before. I guess you just have to help Buffy by letting her be for a while. You can’t pressure her,” Faith sighed.
“Faith, I just...” Angel stopped when he heard something from the master bathroom upstairs.
“What?” Faith asked.
“I’ll call you back.” Angel hung up the phone and ran upstairs, taking the steps two at a time. He walked into the bathroom and gasped. Buffy was in the tub and the water was bright red. He saw a small pocket knife on the floor and deep gashes on both her wrists.
“Oh my God! Buffy!” Anegl cried. He pulled her out of the water and grabbed four towels, wrapping them tightly around her wrists and pushing the pressure points. He held both arms above her head. Oh God. He was actually glad that his parents had put an emergency alert button in the bathroom. He reached out with one hand and pressed it multiple times. Buffy’s eyes fluttered open and she looked at him.
“I’m sorry, my love,” Buffy whispered. Her eyes rolled back into her head and she went limp in his arms.

The ambulance arrived in record time. Angel ran outside, carrying Buffy in his arms. The paramedics loaded her on the gurney and Angel climbed inside.
“Is she going to be okay?” Angel asked, frantically.
“I don’t know sir,” one of the paramedics sighed. They pretended to work on her until they arrived at the hospital. Faith and Brooke met him there.
“How is she?”“Faith asked.
“They don’t know,” Angel sighed, tears brimming in his eyes. A few minutes later, a doctor came out with a grave look on his face.
“I’m sorry, she had already lost too much blood. There was nothing we could do.” Angel felt the world spin. The doctor led him back to the room that Buffy was in. He looked at her, her skin pale, almost transluscent, a peaceful look on her face. He burst into tears and held her hand tightly.
“Buffy, baby, why? I know that you felt dirty and depressed after what Spike did to you, but you didn’t have to resort to this. We could have helped you, we wanted to help you,” Angel cried. He laid his head against her hand.
“God, baby I love you so much.” He reached into his pocket and pulled out a black velvet box. Inside was a white gold ring with a large diamond. “I was going to give this to you next week, but I guess there won’t be a next week. I want you to know that my heart belongs to you forever.” Angel slipped the ring on her finger and kissed her lightly. Then he pulled a white gold band out of his pocket and slipped it on his finger. He knew that Buffy loved him, and even though she was dead, he wanted to be married to her forever. He stood and covered Buffy with a sheet before walking out of the room.
