Who She Really Is: Identity Theft
by Angel1919
‘I wonder what Spike’s doing right now.’ Buffy thought, sitting idly as the fire before her danced. ‘Think about anything but the cold.’ She told herself as she huddled in the warmth of her small, black leather jacket. ‘Probably sitting in front of the television, drinking the cow’s blood we picked up the other day. 99.3, just the way he likes it.’
Remembering he always like his blood just slightly warmer. The way he looked at her when she walked into the room, like he had to hold himself back from taking her right then and there. Watching her as a tiger watches its prey, about to spring, waiting to attack-
Slamming the Slayer’s head against the boulder, the demon smiled to herself. Buffy fell over instantly unconscious, the warm blood streaming down the side of her face.
“Flawless.” Muttered the demon as she muscled Buffy’s limp body over her boney shoulder. The demon gave herself points for her technique, she was sure the slayer never even sensed anything was wrong. The small demon hustled away, proud of herself and her prize.

Slowly opening her eyes, which felt like a ton a bricks. Buffy immediately saw it. Sleeping in a shadowy corner of what she guessed was its cave.
Quietly testing the chains which held her wrist above her head, Buffy quickly realized that she was going no where. Slayer-strength and all, she wasn’t going to escape these chains.
“That’s the point.” The demon said, stretching sleepily.
After calming down her thundering heart which happened to be easing its way out of her throat, Buffy coughed loudly. “What’s the point?”
“The chains. There’s no way you can get away. That’s the point.” The demon yawned almost fully awake.
“You can read minds huh?” Buffy asked. “Had that ability once, really didn’t care for it.”
“Well, I find it really helpful in my line of work.” The demon smiled largely, huge teeth pointing towards each other.
“And what is your line of work?”
“Stealing identities.” She said simply.
“Identities? Well, good luck.” Buffy snorted, rolling her eyes. Surely her friends would know her from this ugly little demon, but then again, they really couldn’t tell her from a robot once, but that was different.
“Oh little girl.” The demon snapped as she stalked closer, baring her large, rather yellow teeth. “I’m holing you captive, in chains at that. You really shouldn’t be mocking me.”
Buffy realized that maybe the demons threats might not be so empty after all. ‘William was right, I really didn’t need to come on this quest.’
“Well, I’m glad you didn’t listen to him!”
‘Stop thinking!’ she told herself.
“Doesn’t work. People and demons alike have a thought going through their minds, conscious or not, at any given time.”
“Shut up!” Buffy said angrily.
“Oh anyways, do you wanna know how this works, or do you want to get on with the Slayer Show?”
‘I just want to be with Spike.’ She thought.
“Since you’re not in a talking mood, I’ve decided for you! You want to just get straight to the good part.” Grabbing Buffy by both arms, the demon threw her to the ground, yanking the chains and tearing the skin on Buffy’s wrist.
Laying down beside the slayer, the demon smashed her head against Buffy’s, and started to painfully extract all her thoughts and memories.
Crying out in pain, Buffy watched as her life faded before her eyes. The Magic Box, her sister and mother, her friends, Spike, Riley, Parker, Angel, high school… on it went until the only thing she knew was the dark dirty cave she was in was bad. She started to cry, little sobs like the ones a young lost girl would make.
Because that’s all she was now, lost and alone.
