Fade from black to the Scoobies' living room. It's been expansively decorated with banners, balloons, streamers – no expense has been spared. The five housemates, plus Faith and Hannah, are working on the finishing touches.
It's Giles' 50th birthday ...
Dawn looks around at the transformed living room.
Dawn: Do you think he'll like it?
Xander: He'll hate it.
Tara: But he'll be here, and that's a good start.
...and he's about to get a gift...
The coffee table is ladden with gifts. Most are brightly packaged with colourful paper and bows. But there's one that stands out.
A box, made of wood and engraved with simple, almost childlike carvings.
...he can't exactly return.
Hannah: Rupert, I have some news for you.
Cut to a door opening. Giles is standing on the other side. He looks pissed.
Cut to a shot of a hand beginning to open the box.
Cut to Giles staring at something, blinking in an utterly stunned stupor.
Cut to the box opening. There's a blinding glow from within.
Cut back to Hannah. Her arms are crossed and she has a tiny smirk on her face.
Hannah: It looks like you're a daddy.
Giles continues to stare.
Giles: Oh bugger.
