Footsies

by: Amy

"And the feeding patterns of these demons are actually quite interesting."  Buffy raised her eyebrows at that. She always got a little concerned about how excited Giles was over new demon. His face was happy, his eyes bright.  "Really, it's all in how they force the life out of someone. The life reserves are sucked out with a tusk that the demon grows...."

As Giles droned on about something, Oz wasn't sure what, he sighed and tried not to roll his eyes. Giles was a weird guy, Oz could give him that. But then again, Oz never claimed to be normal. What ever made you happy, go with it. That was Oz's motto.

Leaning against the back of the chair, Oz contemplated his girlfriend, who was sitting across from him, seemingly entranced in Giles's speech. Not a flicker of the eye or a twitch of the cheek made it seem like she wasn't listening.  The setting sun was coming through the window, lighting her face in a pink hue. Her hair glowed like a halo. Her eyes shimmered in the dimming light, making them look like enchanted crystals. This time, when Oz sighed, it was a good sigh.

He decided he liked being in love.

He wished she was paying attention to him like that. There was nothing he wanted more at that moment than to kiss her until she had that silly smile and dizzy, blurred, confused look on her face. Her hair looked so soft.... He caught her eye, staring and her, and Willow flashed him a sweet smile that promised sweet kisses later. She turned her attention back to Giles, though, who was taking out some sort of graph.

Oz shook his head. He thought Willow had been.... winking at him? He nearly laughed. Willow was too interested in the demons to be flirting. He watched her closer as she leaned toward the desk casually and rested one elbow on it.

Underneath the table, Oz felt a foot nudge his own. A broad smile formed on his face. He rubbed the foot that was persistently pushing against his.  Catching it between his ankles, he caught the faintest smile on Willow's face.  Taking her hand across the table, he relaxed his hold on her foot for a second.

A split second was all it took. She yanked it away, the tiny thing retreating to her own side of the desk. Oz stifled a disappointed frown. Before he could sigh again, though, the foot made it's way back to him... Right up the bottom of his pants. She had kicked off her shoe!! He smiled at the sweet, sock covered toes that were rubbing his leg innocently.

Kicking off his own shoes, he fondled her nearly bare foot with his. Willow finally broke into a full smile and Oz basked in the glow it gave him, one that spread pleasingly through all of his limbs.

Willow gave Oz a mischievous smile. She playfully tickled the bottom of his foot with her toes. He sucked in his breath, determined not to laugh. He noticed Buffy, watching them closely with a hidden smile. He grinned back, realizing that Giles was too far gone in what he was talking about to notice.

Willow's eyes sparkled warmly. She had a lighthearted look on her face as she tried to make Oz laugh. Deciding to play dirty, Oz reached farther under the table and grabbed Willow's leg with his hand. Just above the knee, he gave a good squeeze and chuckled softly when she squealed and burst into laughter!

"Unfair!" she cried out, giggling. Oz pulled his hand away and put on a serious face as Giles turned to them with an uncertain smile. Buffy made funny faces behind his back. Between the silly grin Buffy was wearing and the mock serious face Oz had on, Willow lost it completely, falling into hysterics.

She doubled over, laughing. Giles looked concerned. "I....! I.....!

I....!" she managed to gasp out. She breathed deeply, composing herself.

Sitting up straight, she looked at Giles, avoiding the eyes of Oz and Buffy, else she start laughing again. "Um.... It's... Unfair. Of all those people who have died. It was they're life force." She looked up at him hopefully.  "Right? And... And I've been having this cough for a while. Sounds like a laugh. The doctor calls it a laughing cough. Yeah," she covered. Oz stifled a snicker. Buffy coughed too.

Giles turned his back to the teenagers, barely hiding a smile as he again pointed to places on his graph. Oz grinned at Willow who pretended to scowl at him for a moment before letting her features fall into a pleased expression. Oz decided that he liked researching.

It was never boring.
