The dates listed below are more or less the dates of the events in the Los Angeles of "Jossverse," NOT in what most of us think of as “the real world.”

Episode 1 (1st in the series)
City of
(Angel meets a
new friend and an old friend in LA)
Late September,
1999
- We discover that Angel has taken up residence in LA.
- Angel meets Doyle, a half-demon sent by the Powers That Be to assist him in helping people (via head-splitting
visions)
- We see Angel’s apartment.
- Angel runs into Cordelia Chase.
- Angel first meets Lindsey McDonald, a lawyer for Wolfram & Hart (a law firm that has taken on at least one vampire as a client)
- Cordy adds herself to the
team and “Angel Investigations” is born.
Episode 2 (2nd in the series)
Lonely Heart
(Burrower
demon makes dating in LA deadly)
Late September,
1999
- We get to see the first of
Doyle’s many visions.
- Angel meets Kate Lockley of the LAPD. (Los Angeles Police Department)
- Angel tells Kate he’s a
private investigator (no mention of vampire)
- Angel and Doyle visit Cordy’s
rather unsavory apartment.
Episode 3 (3rd in the series)
In the Dark
(Spike and Oz
come to town)
Mid-October,
1999
- Oz brings "The Gem of Amara"
to Angel in Los
Angeles;
Spike follows. (See "Buffy" season 4,
episode 3 "The Harsh Light of Day.")
- We see Doyle’s apartment.
- Spike hints to Angel that
Buffy has moved on. (to Parker; See "Buffy" season 4, episode 3
"The Harsh Light of Day.")
- Using the Gem of Amara, Angel walks in the sunlight.
- Oz and Spike (separately)
return to Sunnydale.
- Angel destroys the Gem.
Episode 4 (4th in the series)
I Fall to Pieces
(The case with
the detachable stalker)
Late October,
1999
- We see Angel wear something
other than black. (cream sweater, dark blue shirt)
- Angel visits Kate at work for
the first time.
- We find out via Kate that
Wolfram & Hart are a VERY unethical law firm (meaning, evil)
- Angel Investigations (AI)
gets its first paying client (Melissa Burns)
Episode 5 (5th in the series)
Rm w/a Vu
(Cordelia
moves into a new apartment and gets a “roommate.”)
Early November,
1999
- We discover that Doyle has
some massive gambling debts.
- Cordy briefly moves in with
Angel.
- Doyle helps Cordy find a
nice, new, haunted apartment.
- Cordy stand up to the ghost
of Maude Pearson.
- Doyle exorcises Maude; the
ghost of her son Dennis hangs around.
Episode 6 (6th in the series)
Sense and
Sensitivity
(LA’s finest
get sensitive.)
The days
around November 9, 1999
- Kate hires AI
- We meet Kate’s father,
retired cop Trevor Lockley.
- Wolfram & Hart begin to
focus in on Angel.
Episode 7 (7th in the series)
The Bachelor
Party
(Doyle goes to
his ex-wife’s fiancé’s bachelor party.)
Late November,
1999 (just before Thanksgiving)
- We discover A LOT about Doyle
- Allen Francis Doyle, divorced, ex-third grade teacher.
- We see hints that Cordelia may
be falling for Doyle.
- Doyle has a vision of Buffy
in trouble in Sunnydale and Angel leaves to help her. (see Buffy
Season 4, Ep ?? “Pangs”)
Episode 8 (8th in the series)
I Will Remember
You
(Buffy and
Angel share a day that never was.)
The two days after
Thanksgiving, 1999 (November 26 & 27)
- Buffy comes to LA to confront Angel about his
actions in Sunnydale (see Buffy Season 4, Ep ?? “Pangs”)
- Angel becomes human! (His blood mixes with that of a Mohra demon.)
- We meet the Oracles - brother and sister “beings” that are
channels for the PTB.
- Angel and Buffy spend a day
together; lots of romantic stuff and sex.
- Angel discovers that being
human tips the cosmic scales and has the Oracles “rewind the clock” and repeat the day; he alone remembers everything.
- Buffy confronts Angel about
interfering in her life and leaves LA.
Episode 9 (9th in the series)
Hero
(Doyle proves
his worth to himself.)
Late November,
1999 (just after “I Will Remember You”)
- Angel tells Doyle about the
“lost day”; Doyle tells Cordelia
- Cordelia finds out that Doyle
is half Brachen demon.
- Doyle kisses Cordelia. (complete with glowy
light thing)
- Doyle dies. (Incinerated while sacrificing himself to disable “the Beacon” to save everyone.)
Episode 10 (10th in the series)
Parting Gifts
(Cordelia is
left with Doyle’s gift.)
December, 1999
(just after “Hero”)
- Cordelia discovers that
during their kiss, she inherited Doyle’s visions.
- Wesley
Wyndam-Price shows up in LA as a
“rogue demon hunter” (the Watcher’s Council fired him)
- Wesley seems to be poor,
hungry, and staying in LA.
Episode 11 (11th in the series)
Somnambulist
(There’s a
vampire serial killer terrorizing LA)
December, 1999
- Wesley is poking around AI.
- We meet Penn, a vampire Angel sired over 200 years ago.
- Kate discovers Angel is a
vampire and loses all trust she had in him.
- Penn dies. (Kate staked him through Angel’s
midsection.)
- Cordelia promises Angel
she’ll kill him if he ever turns into Angelus again.
Episode 12 (12th in the series)
Expecting
(Cordelia is
pregnant with… septuplets?)
January, 2000
- Cordelia hooks up with and
has sex with Wilson Christopher (first time we’ve confirmed that Cordy has
had sex)
- Angel refers to Cordelia as
family.
- Cordelia drinks blood.
Episode 13 (13th
in the series)
She
(Angel and
Wesley show off their “dancing” skills… and some other dimensional people show
up.)
January, 2000
- Angel offers Wesley a job
(and a paycheck)
- We hear our first mention of
portals to other dimensions.
Episode 14 (14th in the series)
I’ve Got You Under My Skin
(AI investigates
a possession.)
Late January,
2000
- We see the first concrete
hints that Wesley’s childhood was not a happy one.
- Wesley tries, and Angel
finally succeeds in performing an exorcism.
Episode 15 (15th in the series)
The Prodigal
(Parents and
children - it never changes.)
February, 2000
- Kate tells Angel to
back off, that they could never work out.
- We find out that Trevor Lockley is involved in trafficking of illegal car
parts.
- We discover that Liam was
born in 1727, sired by Darla in 1753, killed his family, and was given his
angelic name by his younger sister Kathy.
- Trevor Lockley dies (drained by vampires involved in the
trafficking)
- Kate blames Angel for her
father's death (he was there, but too late)
- Kate dusts her first vampire
(one of the ones who killed her father)
Episode 16 (16th in the series)
The Ring
(Demonic
Professional Wrestling)
February, 2000
- Angel first meets Wolfram
& Hart attorney Lilah
Morgan.
- Lilah (and Wolfram &
Hart) knows about Angel's soul.
- Angel is captured and forced
to fight in a demonic gladiator ring
- Wesley shows some talent with
guns and a crossbow.
Episode 17 (17th in the series)
Eternity
(Actress wants
to be young forever)
Late February,
2000
- We see Cordelia acting in a
play (she's really bad)
- We hear, again, a rehash of
Angel's curse (inc. a comment by Wesley that true happiness is a rarity)
- Actress Rebecca Lowell drugs Angel, causing false and temporary
happiness, bring out Angelus.
- Wesley and Cordelia
"contain" Angelus until the drug leaves his system and Angel returns.
Episode 18 (18th in the series)
Five by Five
(Faith comes
to LA hunting Angel)
March, 2000
- Faith comes to LA (see Buffy season 4, Episodes 15
& 16 "This Year's Girl" and "Who Are You?")
- Lindsey and Lilah (who know all
about Faith being a slayer) recruit Faith to kill Angel
- Angel, Wesley, and Cordelia
discover Faith is in town.
- Faith kidnaps and tortures
Wesley.
- Angel rescues Wesley and
fights Faith.
- Faith breaks down, wanting
Angel to kill her. (Which he
obviously doesn't.)
Episode 19 (19th in the series)
Sanctuary
(Buffy comes
to LA after Faith)
March, 2000 (right
after "Five by Five")
- Wolfram & Hart discover
that Faith is being protected by Angel.
- Faith asks Angel to help her
change.
- Thugs from the
Watchers' Council offer Wesley
reinstatement if he helps capture Faith.
- Angel finds out Buffy is
dating Riley (via Faith)
- Buffy shows up in LA looking for Faith.
- Wesley pretends to help the
Watchers' Council, and turns on them to protect Faith and Angel.
- Faith turns herself into the
LAPD.
- Angel tells off Buffy and send her back to Sunnydale.
- After the episode, Angel goes
to Sunnydale to apologize (see Buffy season 4, Episode 20 "The Yoko
Factor")
Episode 20 (20th in the series)
War Zone
(Street kids
v. Vamps)
April, 2000
- Angel et al. meet billionaire
software nerd David Nabbit.
- Angel meets Charles Gunn, leader of a gang of street kids who fight
vampires, and his sister Alonna.
- Alonna dies.
(sired by a neighborhood vampire and staked by Gunn)
- Gunn knows that Angel is a
vampire and that they are more or less on the same side.
Episode 21 (21st in the series)
Blind Date
(Lindsey has a
crisis of conscience.)
The days
leading up to April 28, 2000
- We first meet Holland Manners, a "higher up" at Wolfram &
Hart.
- Lindsey decides he wants out
of Wolfram & Hart and goes to Angel Investigations for help.
- Angel recruits Gunn to help. (distraction)
- Angel steals a scroll that
contain the Prophecies of Aberjian, which
include a passage about "a vampire with a soul"
- Lindsey helps Angel save
three children from Wolfram & Hart assassin Vanessa Brewer.
- Holland offers Lindsey a promotion at Wolfram &
Hart; Lindsey accepts.
Episode 22 (22nd in the series)
To Shanshu in L.A.
(Wolfram &
Hart go on the offensive against Angel)
Early May,
2000
- Lindsey is now a Junior
Partner at Wolfram & Hart.
- Wolfram & Hart summon the
demon Vocah to cut
Angel off from the Powers That Be
- The Oracles
die. (Hacked to death by Vocah)
- Vocah causes Cordelia to have non-stop visions.
- Vocah steals the Prophecies of Aberjian
and firebombs Angel's building, hurting Wesley.
- Angel again recruits Gunn to
help. (protection at the hospital)
- Vocah dies.
(Axe to the head by Angel)
- Angel cuts off Lindsey's
right hand.
- Angel retrieves the Prophecies
of Aberjian and Wes uses them to release
Cordelia from the visions.
- Cordelia is now thoroughly
committed to helping people.
- Wesley translates part of the
Prophecies of Aberjian as saying that "the
vampire with a soul will shanshu, " meaning become human, once his destiny is
fulfilled.
- Wolfram & Hart summon Darla back into existence. (see Buffy season 1, Episode 7 "Angel")
