The Dimension
- Bottom to Top: The BUFFY Episode Countdown
Hey, hey, it's a countdown....people say we countdown around. So you better get
ready, the countdown's coming to your town.
Leave it to Rebecca Rand Kirshner to be the creator of Cassie. A character with such
lousy poetry that she might as well have off'd herself, and hopefully put the poems
in the fire as well. Was that harsh? I'm sorry, I don't care. I can't believe when this
episode first came out people were oogling all over it. What was great about it? We got
a one-episode character that we're basically forced to feel sorry for...not to mention
the very un-"The Body"-like forced grief at the end, which made it feel like a Lifetime
Movie of the Week.
Xander, Xander, Xander. When will that kid learn? Right, pretty much never. This time he falls
for a preying mantis lady. It's a cute little episode that isn't really all that bad, except for
the fact that it's really bad. For starters, we never have giant insect creatures again, and secondly,
it feels like "Return of the Swamp Thing" without Heather Locklear and her 80's hairdo. In other words,
the cheese, she overflows.
People are probably going to bitch that this is so low, but come on. It's a Robot....that looks like a human.
Built by a college kid. Meanwhile, General Motors can't seem to build a car that can hold a bumper
in place for longer than 5 years. Yes, I need an imagination, but this is pushing it. We do get the end
of the episode where Joyce is dead on the couch, but the real good stuff doesn't happen until the next episode.
I wasn't made to love this episode.
Sid used to be a demon hunter, now he's a shaped block of wood with a hand up his ass. Ah, life has funny
twists and turns, doesn't it? I don't know why this is so low, it wasn't all that bad. It's just one
of the those season 1 one-arc'ers that doesn't really go anywhere. We get 'random demon of the week', courtesy
of Mark the Magician. Obviously the ending where the scoobies are reciting (poorly) Oedipus Rex is hillarious,
but hey, Puppets and stuff....can't be a 4 star spectacular, folks.
It's the dude that looks like what Freddy and Nosferatu's son would look like if they got down one drunken
night. Oh yeah, put the bubs on ice and turn up the Johnny Mathis! So Buffy is all sick and sweaty, and Xander's
all defender-y, and Willow's all detective-y, and Cordy's all un-tact-y, and Giles is being british-y. So it ain't
all bad. Der Kniderstad was just....yeck, and the eyeball thing was creepy in a 'bleck' way instead of the scary
variety. Oh, and Angelus is being a big evil dull dud like usual, but we'll skip that.
Angelus: Xanders guitar solo/dream sequence was totally awesome in teachers pet. This is the episode that started the whole 'Xander is a demon magnet' thing. Atalanta: None of those eps were bad, but I agree that they're probably not as good as most other Buffy eps so they're probably in about the right place. I really love the end of The Puppet Show though, that play.. brilliant. UnpluggedCrazy: I thought that Help was a great episode, and I really liked Cassie. Ah, well. I am strange. Spikes_love_slave: u need to take "help" off the list. i got chills when she told spike that buffy would tell him one day,and when spike beat that guy just to help buffy.i guess im a sucker for the romantic crap. and i totally agree with the lurker, clowns, and little dolls scare the fuck outta me! angleus: no, i liked 'help'! i guess i dont see whats wrong with having a character only there for one episode. her poetry is horrid, yes, but give her a break - as brought up in the episode, what teen doesnt write angsty poetry? it cant all be good. i guess i just liked cassies attitude, her quiet acceptance that you cant fight fate. however, i must agree with you on 'killed by death'. it smacks far too much of 'nightmare on elm street'. Lurker: i thought puppet show was good but mostly b/c puppets and clowns and dolls scare the shit outa me miles: I agree with tones- sign of the apocolypse- O&FA sucks. But not as much as As You Were which I consider the worst episode of the series. Spike_And_Angel: I Was Made To Love You and Puppet Show weren't that bad. I liked April and the skit Buffy, Xander, anmd Willow do. But you're right about the rest. I hate Killed By Death! marianvespers: oh, i liked killed by death. maybe it was just because i had the flu when i watched it. oh well. Tones: Where the bloody hell is Older and Far Away??? No way was that episode better than...well, anything really. Including having your testicles shaved by a Bulgarian giant woman named Svetta. And Killed By Death kinda rocks in my book. So does The Puppet Show. |
