Synopsis
The Short: From the WB11 home
page: After a night of passion with Darla, Angel wakes to find that he hasn't
lost his soul and changed back to Angelus. Darla's offended that he didn't
have a moment of true happiness with her and after a tussle, he tells her
the next time he'll kill her. Angel's had an epiphany.
He remembers the message he heard Kate leaving before encountering Darla
and realizes she's in trouble. Angel bursts into Kate's apartment to find
her on the floor surrounded by empty booze and pill bottles. He drags her
into the shower and revives her. Kate's reaction? Thanks for saving me,
now get out.
Next stop is the karaoke bar to have a chat with the Host. The Host tells
him to go back to his crew. Besides, they're in danger. Flash to Wesley
sitting in his apartment. He hears noises and goes to the closet to find
his shotgun and fumble for the bullets. Just as the Skilosh demons are
attacking to get revenge for the spawn the crew removed from the Sharp
girl, Angel arrives to help. After defeating them Wesley almost slips back
into "happy with Angel" mode but then remembers why they don't want the guy
around. No matter. They've got to find the others.
Wesley and Angel drive back to the office - while Angel insists that he's
had an epiphany and tries in vain to make small talk. They're not at the
office long when Gunn arrives and sneers in Angel's direction. It isn't
forgive and forget time yet. Cordelia's missing and they figure out that
she's gone to the Sharp's by looking at the carbon copy from her message
pad.
On their way to the Sharp's they're attacked by the Skilosh tribe. Angel
tells them to go on and he'll join them later. He prepares to battle the
Skilosh alone when they scatter - Lindsay's truck is barreling down the
road at Angel. Unfortunately, Darla revealed a few scant details to
Lindsay about their night of vampire passion and he's plenty jealous. He
runs over Angel a half-dozen times before getting out the truck and coming
after him with a sledgehammer. When Angel refuses to give details Lindsay
goes after a stake and Angel attacks. It ends with Angel smashing
Lindsay's fake hand and stealing the truck.
At the Sharp house, Cordelia's developed a third eye (nasty Skilosh demon
spawn) and Gunn and Wesley are caught going in the back door to save her.
Right before they too are infected with new eyes, Angel smashes through
the front room with the truck and they kill all the Skilosh. Cordelia's
healed.
Flash to Angel sitting at the hotel with Kate. They discuss what the
meaning is in all of this and come to the realization that everything they
do counts. And hey, something's looking after them -- Kate never invited
Angel into her house but he was allowed to save her.
Angel shows up at the crew's offices. Wesley informs him that they've
discussed it and they don't want to come back to work for him yet. Angel
says he doesn't want them back. (Oh.) He wants to work for them. But why?
He feels he can help. Just then, Cordy gets a vision and finds that Angel
has caught her as she was falling. And they're off to the next battle, the
whole team back together...
The Long: This episode opens right where the last one left off, with Angel waking up in bed after having spent the night having sex with Darla. He seems in pain and panic, and runs out into a brewing storm. Darla wakes up and tells him not to fight it.
Unfinished.
Creature Feature
According to Wesley: ''Skilosh, a notoriously violent, asexual, self-replicating species of demon, has the distasteful habit of injecting its demon spawn into the cranium of a human host. One of the key diagnostic symptoms being the tell-tale third eye on the back of the host's head. If this condition is not arrested in time a newborn Skilosh will erupt, fully grown, from the skull of its human host.''
This episode put an end to the arguement over whether Angel's loss of a soul was strictly based on sex or something more he shared with Buffy. He had sex, but not a moment of perfect happiness, and he didn't loose his soul, although it seemed close.
Cool Quotes
- Host demon: ''Isn't this just the sort of 'tude that got you where you are now? I think I'm speaking for everyone when I say if all you're gonna do is switch back to brood mode, we'd rather have you
evil. Then at least... leather pants.''
The host enjoys a little Angel mocking.
References
- Host demon: ''Eh, kill her, give her cab fare, whatever. The point is, you've turned a corner. Well, yay you. Zuzu's petals. It's about time, and between you and me, if it had taken you much longer to hit your bottom,
I was gonna kick it.''
This is a reference to the 1946 film It's A Wonderful Life. When Zuzu is sick in her bed she had a flower whose petals fell off, which she hands to her father. Plot: An angel helps a despairingly frustrated man by showing the profoundly positive impact he had on his community.
Continuity
- Darla: ''Yes. Yes, I know. It was the same for me. The soul is gone but it leaves a bitterness. It'll pass.''
Reunion - Darla became a vampire again, losing her soul.
- Cordelia: ''No, no. No more must rise. Honest. Listen, I've been impregnated by demon spawn before. Let's just say, didn't really work out.''
Expecting - Cordelia was impregnated with the spawn of a Haxil Beast.
Goofs
- When Angel saves Kate you see a close up of his hand turning on the water in the shower. When he does that you can clearly see his reflection in the chrome, even though he is a vampire and should cast no reflection.

Points Of View
Mathew:
Well, Angel got the unliving hell kicked out of him, and I loved it! Now I like Lindsey better then ever. What is with the truck he drives? Not what I expected. I'm glad the crew didn't just welcome him back with open arms. What was with the host knowing so much without anyone singing? Did Angel sing off camera?
